- ➤ The Surf City Bridge now offers a 10 foot wide multi use path for pedestrians and cyclists to take in views of Topsail Island, local waterways and businesses—an ideal way to slow down and enjoy the coastal scene. - ➤ A Rose Hill man, 23-year-old Hernan Chirinos-Herrera, was found guilty of statutory rape for abusing a six-year-old he babysat in 2017 — the conviction was reached after four minutes of jury deliberation with expert testimony, and he was sentenced to 13 to 20 years in prison. FOX Wilmington

- ➤ New Hanover County Schools will hold a Strategic Planning Listening Tour on Wednesday, July 30—starting with a staff session from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Board of Education Building and followed by a public session with Superintendent Dr. Chris Barnes and Board members from 6 to 7 p.m. The event offers parents a chance to share ideas to guide the district’s future. - ➤ Brunswick County Schools Superintendent Dale Cole said growth near Leland will force the district to build at least two new elementary schools and one high school.
