- ➤ A deadly car accident near Carolina Beach Road killed one person and led to the closure of part of the road as Wilmington Police Department and Wilmington Fire Department responded—officials said more details are pending. FOX Wilmington
- ➤ A small plane made an emergency landing in the ocean near Oak Island Pier around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, and the local Beach Safety Unit rescued the pilot, who was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while the recovered plane was towed away—federal investigators now handle the case. - ➤ On Sunday evening, Wilmington Fire Department crews responded to Target on New Centre Drive when smoke came from its HVAC unit and a fire alarm was pulled— the store was evacuated and is expected to reopen tonight. WECT
- ➤ Two people died early Sunday morning in Wilmington when officers responded around 1 a.m. to a burning vehicle on the 300 block of Willard Street—police are continuing their investigation. WWAY

- ➤ North Carolina state auditor Dave Boliek said his office will soon use a state version of DOGE via House Bill 125 to review government spending and boost efficiency using modern computer programs and AI—he said his team will check every department's return on investment.
