ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Wilmington Police confirmed that a pedestrian was hit downtown Saturday evening when officers tried to stop someone riding an ATV near the intersection of S Front Street and Dock Street—State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.  WWAY

  • Wilmington Police investigated a Saturday morning shooting downtown that injured one person & they continue to gather evidence.  WECT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wilmington-area fans can now vote for the best high school cheerleading program—13 local schools are in the running and the poll will close at 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 18.  Wilmington Star-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, showers, downpours, and waterspouts are possible from the south and the ocean as unsettled weather moves in. In the week ahead, a deep tropical disturbance called Invest 97-L is trending to become the first Atlantic hurricane — Hurricane Erin — while local temperatures will rise to the upper 80s on Thursday and Friday.  WECT

SPORTS NEWS

  • South Brunswick football ended a winless 2024 season and will join the new Southeastern Conference, moving from the Mideastern Conference to face teams like Whiteville and West Bladen. Head coach Daniel Yow said the Cougars will work hard to break a 17-game losing streak — the team plans to build momentum with a 40-man varsity roster.  WWAY
