- ➤ The Last Chance for White Pants Gala will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23 from 7-11 p.m. at the Brooklyn Arts Center in downtown Wilmington to raise funds for Lower Cape Fear LifeCare’s programs — including grief counseling and hospice care — and will feature live music, auctions, catering and a rare bourbon raffle. - ➤ Residents of Oak Island are fighting the planned construction of a three-story home on East Beach Drive because they say it could harm the local environment and worsen flooding.
