- ➤ Today, the inaugural Taste of Truckz food festival fundraiser is held at Cape Fear Community College’s Schwartz Center parking lot from 4pm to 8pm — the event features local food trucks, vendors, beer and wine tastings, live music and a kids’ area, and funds raised will support the Block Eatz campus project to help community entrepreneurs. - ➤ Cape Fear Women’s Rugby uses its club to build a local community in Wilmington by welcoming everyone to play regardless of experience or body type—founded in 1974, the club also supports men’s and youth teams and is planning a new clubhouse. WWAY
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Five people and one dog were rescued after two boats capsized near Shell Island at 4:15 p.m. Saturday due to strong swells + Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue saved those on board. FOX Wilmington
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Oak Island Police—who arrived around 11:30 a.m.—are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman found in a home on NE 31st Street Saturday morning; the cause of death will be revealed after an autopsy with assistance from state investigators. FOX Wilmington
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tropical Storm Fernand—formed on August 23 off the Atlantic—moved northeast away from Bermuda and is expected to boost rip current risks along Wilmington beaches, though it will not impact land. Wilmington Star-News
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ In July, New Hanover County’s median listing price was $562,500—up slightly from $561,450 last month—and homes took 71 days on the market compared to 64 days previously.
