- ➤ On Sunday, Brunswick Beer Exchange hosted a fundraiser to honor first responders and raise money for a garden memorial for the 343 firefighters lost on 9/11. Funds from donated vendors and raffles will be used to maintain the garden and replace winter-damaged trees, and a 15 by 15-inch steel panel will be installed on 9/11 to mark the tribute. - ➤ Five people and a dog were rescued after two boats capsized in Masonboro Inlet Saturday afternoon—one boat tipped just after 4 p.m. because of large swells and a second boat also overturned while trying to help, leading rescue crews to act promptly. WWAY
- ➤ Wilmington Police say the 400 block of S Kerr Avenue is closed due to an ongoing fire investigation—after a 16-year-old's 2012 Kia began smoking on Highway 5, officers have advised drivers to use alternate routes. WECT

- ➤ A man jumped off the Thomas Rhodes Bridge into the Cape Fear River early Sunday after he drove the wrong way on Cape Fear Memorial Bridge and hit a car around 2 a.m. (he survived the nearly 60-foot drop with only minor injuries) before firefighters rescued him and deputies arrested him. WECT

- ➤ The Runarounds, a TV series rooted in Wilmington’s music scene, will debut on Prime Video on Sept. 1 with a soundtrack featuring local bands and will hold a concert at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater on Sept. 14+ creator Jonas Pate said the series, which began with a pilot in 2022 and returned to film in 2024, highlights Wilmington’s unique talent. - ➤ Recent heavy rains have caused more mushrooms to appear in Wilmington yards as extra moisture naturally triggers fungal growth.
