- ➤ Wilmington Fire Department is challenging local families to create a home escape plan by submitting a photo, video, or PDF of their plan throughout September—entries must include two exit routes from each room, a meeting place, and a clear exit plan for each family member. The contest winner will receive a private fire station tour along with a special lunch and truck display for their child's class. WECT
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Lake Street Dive released their new album Good Together that carries a theme of joyful rebellion and positive vibes—Rachael Price said the songs were born from a retreat and the album was recorded soon after she had her baby. The band will perform at Riverfront Park Tuesday, Sept. 30, 8 p.m.—bringing a horn section and extra percussion to their lively live show. Port City Daily
- ➤ The Runarounds premiered on Amazon Prime on Sept. 1 and shows Wilmington through its local streets, actors, and bands as it follows a young rock band chasing success. A concert is scheduled at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater on Sept. 14—if the show does well, more episodes may follow. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ Sutton Foster, a two-time Tony Award winner, will perform live at the Wilson Center at Cape Fear Community College on Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m.—tickets are available today at 10 a.m. for Wilson Center Members and will open to the general public on Sept. 5. Port City Daily

- ➤ Mad Mole Brewing in Wilmington is installing permeable pavers in its parking lot next to Bradley Creek to reduce rainwater run-off pollution. The project is funded by an NCDEQ grant and is carried out with the city+North Carolina Coastal Federation+UNCW to improve local water quality. FOX Wilmington

- ➤ The City of Wilmington launched its biennial community survey to ask residents how they rate quality of life and city services. Residents choose issues like police response, traffic, and affordable housing to guide future work — the survey is now open. Port City Daily
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, protesters gathered outside the New Hanover County Courthouse holding signs and speaking to county commissioners about their concerns over declining care at Novant Health’s New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The Five Star Project organized the protest and said community members are alarmed by safety risks—prompting plans to discuss further strategies next week. WECT
