- ➤ Greenfield Lake Amphitheater will host the annual Port City Jerry Day on September 13 at 6 p.m.—with gates opening an hour early to welcome regional acts and HyRyder as they raise funds for United Way of the Cape Fear Area. WWAY
- ➤ Joseph McNeil, a Wilmington native and one of the Greensboro Four who spurred civil rights actions at Woolworth’s, died Thursday at age 83. The retired U.S. Air Force Major General inspired change in our community—he was honored by renaming part of Third Street in his memory. Port City Daily

- ➤ Chick-fil-A is constructing a new 5,400 square foot restaurant with dual drive-thru lanes & 70 seats on Shipyard Boulevard while its Market Street location is closed for remodeling, making it the eighth in Wilmington. The fast-food chain will offer a free Chicken Sandwich promotion from Sep. 8-13 through its app. Wilmington Star-News

- ➤ Residents will learn about native plants at the 10th Annual Native Plant Festival from Sept. 17—21 held at various Wilmington venues. The event will include a speaker series, a native plant shopping day, and garden tours led by experts—offering local gardeners practical advice to care for native plants. Wilmington Star-News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ New Hanover County received a $265,000 grant from the NCDEQ to improve ADA accessibility and build a kayak launch at Trails End Park—efforts that will update the fishing pier area. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ The Office of State Auditor found over $2 million in errors and weak internal controls during the USS North Carolina Battleship Commission's 2024 audit—Commission officials agreed with the findings and will work with state auditors and an accounting firm to fix the issues by the end of 2025. - ➤ Federal highway funds that pay for over 21,000 miles of North Carolina roads and Wilmington bridges are set to expire in 2026—Congressman David Rouzer is working with lawmakers and local groups to secure a new bill that keeps roads safe and supports growth. Wilmington Star-News
