- ➤ Mariner Warren Ihde recounted his part in the 9/11 boatlift rescue at a remembrance ceremony Thursday at the Homer E. - ➤ NC Child presented data from Cape Fear that shows fewer uninsured children and rising graduation rates. However, many children still lack access to mental health care and quality early care centers—leaving gaps in support for early learning. WHQR
- ➤ WECT News got NCDPI records that show every school district in Southeastern North Carolina had at least one bus removed from service over the past four years—due to problems from minor seat foam damage to major brake and oil leak issues. Officials said Brunswick County Schools kept the lowest defect scores while Bladen County Schools saw scores double in recent inspections as they work to fix the buses. WECT
- ➤ Cape Fear Community College is hosting a Certified Nursing Assistant career fair on September 23rd at its downtown campus in Wilmington. - ➤ NCDEQ ordered Chemours to expand private well testing for PFAS contamination in parts of New Hanover, Brunswick, Columbus, and Pender counties — about 14,000 more residences are now eligible. NCDEQ will hold a virtual public meeting on October 7 at 6 p.m. to explain the changes. WECT

- ➤ Governor Josh Stein relaunched the Interagency Council for Coordinating Homelessness Programs to boost coordination and aid in ending homelessness, including input from local advocates like Katrina Knight and a plan for a $35 million housing trust fund to help families, veterans, seniors, and people with disabilities (estimates show over 11,500 experienced homelessness in 2024). - ➤ On Sept 9, Wilmington City Council adopted an ordinance that makes it illegal to camp on city property from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.—with officials easing parking deck rules and lowering the penalty to an infraction.
