Good morning, Wilmington. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 14th of September.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, residents lined Major General Joseph McNeil Commemorative Way in Wilmington to honor him before his funeral, with the Wilmington Fire Department raising a flag on the street—this tribute recalls his role in the 1960 Woolworth sit-in that advanced civil rights. Overall, community members paid respectful homage to a local hero.  WWAY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A 70-acre parcel in Carolina Beach is for sale at $26.25 million and local residents with a county commissioner are discussing its conservation to keep green space near Carolina Beach State Park (located at 700 Dow Road, across from Good Hops Brewing). Federal and state grant programs may help cover purchase costs if the county decides to move forward (as seen in similar local efforts).  Wilmington Star-News
