- ➤ Family, friends, and community leaders gathered in Wilmington Saturday to honor Major General Joseph McNeil—civil rights pioneer and decorated military leader who helped spark a nationwide push for equality with a 1960 sit-in at a segregated lunch counter. The service at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church featured tributes from local officials like New Hanover County Commissioner Rob Zapple and Mayor Bill Saffo who vowed to keep his legacy of service alive. - ➤ Rapid population growth in Brunswick County has forced local USPS offices to work out of tents—one in Leland for seven years and another in Winnabow for over three years. Postal workers face long hours and heavy workloads, and the USPS will examine its lease options while plans for a new office remain on hold indefinitely. Wilmington Star-News
