- ➤ Galaxy is a 3-year-old labrador retriever and golden retriever mix available for adoption from Monty's Home — she is up to date on her vaccinations, spayed, and heartworm negative. Galaxy is in a training program for basic obedience and leash walking — she will be provided her own crate, harness, leash, and toys when adopted. WECT
- ➤ Wilmington Downtown Inc (WDI) invites the public to an information session on the proposed outdoor dining and retail expansion along Front Street. The session will be held on September 24 (3:30 to 4:30) at Front Street Brewery, and local feedback will guide next steps. WECT

- ➤ Wilmington Voices is set to host two free classical concerts later this month—one on Sept. 26th at 7:30 p.m. at Landfall’s Kenan Chapel in Wilmington with tickets available from Sept. 22nd at the Public Library, and another on Sept. 27th at 3 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Southport featuring cellist Hillary Flowers and pianist Elizabeth Loparits. - ➤ The Fourth Annual Cape Fear Latinos Festival is held today at the Live Oak Bank Pavilion in downtown Wilmington during Hispanic Heritage Month to honor the Latino community. The event features live music, dance, children’s activities and a parade starting at 11 a.m.—more than 5,000 people are expected to attend. WWAY

- ➤ UNCW had a false alarm lockdown on Sept. 18 when hundreds of officers responded to reports of a gunman—Chancellor Aswani Volety said the campus was violated, classes were canceled on Sept. 19, and an investigation is underway. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ UNCW Chancellor Dr. Aswani Volety said that after a three-hour search for an alleged gunman on campus Thursday night—triggered by misleading social media reports—the threat was later declared a false alarm. Law enforcement is now investigating the chain of events as classes were canceled Friday and some campus facilities operated with reduced hours. WHQR
- ➤ Following false reports of a gunman on campus, the UNCW Student Government Association issued a statement on Sept. 19 saying they would hold the administration accountable to restore campus safety—reassuring students that the familiar safe environment will be maintained. WECT
- ➤ A field journaling session at the N.C. Cooperative Extension at New Hanover County Center and Arboretum taught students and parents to record nature details in the herb garden. - ➤ On Sept. 23, Wilmington City Council will meet at City Hall to discuss upcoming projects including a 10-block social district, funding for multi-use paths and pedestrian improvements, a lease agreement, and the swearing in of a new police chief, while public comments on CAPER will be accepted until noon on Sept. 22.
