CULTURE NEWS

  • Wilmington will host 26 live concerts during October featuring rock, country, reggae and classical acts at major venues like Thalian Hall+Greenfield Lake Amphitheater, offering fans diverse music experiences throughout the month.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Visitors at Brunswick Town/fort Anderson State Historic Site attended 'The Carolina Blues: Indigo on the Cape Fear' event on Saturday—participants learned to ferment indigo and extract dye from the plants using hands-on resist dyeing guided by historical interpreters Abby Williams and Andrew Craver.  WWAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Pender County Board of Elections announced that on March 3 voters will use five new precincts to replace nine old ones—voters in Burgaw, Rocky Point, Willard, and Wilmington will be notified by mail of their new locations. Changes will affect those from several former sites and some locations will serve only for municipal elections.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Six candidates are vying for two seats on Oak Island Town Council in the Nov. 4 municipal election with early voting from Oct. 16 through Nov. 1—each candidate offering plans that address controlled development, tourism and coastal preservation to guide the town’s future.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Governor Josh Stein declared a State of Emergency Saturday — his order will let state teams prepare for a storm that could be named Imelda this weekend. The emergency response team is set to mobilize rescue units and other resources to keep communities safe if heavy rain and flooding occur.  WWAY

  • Friday Night Football Week 6 ended with Hoggard winning 34 — 7 over West Brunswick, North Brunswick defeating Topsail 29 — 6, Laney edging Ashley 21 — 18, East Bladen falling 14 — 12 to Hobbton with the game suspended until Oct. 7, East Columbus topping Union 24 — 12, West Columbus losing 20 — 35 to Lakewood, Wallace-Rose Hill beating Goldsboro 65 — 6, James Kenan prevailing 49 — 7 over Rosewood, and Pender winning 46 — 28 over Anson.  FOX Wilmington
  • East Bladen Eagles—named All-Star Team of the Week—beat West Columbus 54-28 last week and improved to a 4-1 record for the first time since 2018.  FOX Wilmington
  • Week 6 of Friday Night Football gave us scores including Hoggard 34—7 West Brunswick, North Brunswick 29—6 Topsail, Laney 21—18 Ashley, East Columbus 24—12 Union, West Columbus 20—35 Lakewood, Wallace-Rose Hill 65—6 Goldsboro, James Kenan 49—7 Rosewood, and Pender 46—28 Anson.
