  • D.C. Virgo met student growth expectations last school year—welcoming new leadership with Dr. Christopher Glover as principal and Rachel Greer as executive director while serving K-8 students in downtown Wilmington.   • The new main branch of the county library will open next week at 230 Grace St, Suite A as part of Project Grace—its ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. The library replaces the old branch that closed on Aug. 4 and will offer updated services.  WECT
  • USACE Wilmington awarded an $11,778,000 contract to Cottrell Contracting Corporation for dredging work to restore the Rollinson Channel and Silver Lake Harbor to authorized depths — ensuring safe navigation for mariners and local waterborne commerce as the work begins in the 2026 fiscal year.  WECT
  • Incumbent Mayor Bill Saffo is running for his tenth term in Wilmington and plans to manage the city's rapid growth with investments in housing, infrastructure, and public safety — aiming to balance development with preserving local neighborhoods.   • The ACLU of North Carolina filed a lawsuit against New Hanover County Clerk of Superior Court to force the release of public records listing individuals deemed Incapable to Proceed in criminal cases.
