- ➤ A family of a victim killed in a mass shooting spoke at a vigil held yesterday in Southport where many gathered to honor the loss + they expressed their faith and hope during the event. WECT
- ➤ Today, Wilmington Riverfest continues downtown for its 46th annual celebration that began Saturday with a street fair, car show, live music, food trucks and a drone show. More than 100,000 visitors have attended the event since 1979—highlighting its enduring draw for the community. WWAY
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Southport community gathered for a vigil at Generations Church near the Waterfront after three victims—Joy Rogers, Solomon Banjo, and Michael Durbin—were killed on Sept 27 when someone fired from a boat into American Fish Company, and Nigel Edge now faces charges including three counts of first degree murder with his next court appearance set for Oct 13. - ➤ Wilmington residents can secure tickets to the popular Enchanted Airlie light display at Airlie Gardens—featuring holiday lights, seasonal music, and hot beverages—that runs Nov. 28-29 and Dec. 1-21 with reservation slots from 5:30-6:30 p.m. to 8:30-9:30 p.m. Members get pre-sale access starting Oct. 8, individual members on Oct. 15, and the general public on Oct. 22, and all entry must be by vehicle. - ➤ A large project called Blake Farm is underway along U.S. 17 in Scotts Hill, where national homebuilder D.R. Horton has built 1,389 of the planned 2,707 residential units. The development will finish more than 1,300 homes — including apartments and a retirement community—with plans for an amenity center featuring a clubhouse, pool, walking trails and a dog park.
