COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lighthouse Beer and Wine Festival took place Saturday at Live Oak Pavilion where breweries and wineries provided taste tests with unlimited refills for favorites—ticket sales raised funds for the Carousel Child Advocacy Center to help children who suffered abuse.  WECT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wilmington's new LEGO store, Bricks & Minifigs, opened on Floral Parkway near Independence Mall on Saturday with a buying day that let customers trade used sets for cash or store credit. The owners said the store will hold another trading event on November 1 and plan to fully open by December & will also serve as a community space with party rooms, build days and after school events.  FOX Wilmington

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volunteers planted nearly 5,000 plants on Oct 16th to complete a multi-year project that restored 10 acres of wetlands at Carolina Beach State Park & improved local wildlife habitat.  Wilmington Star-News
  • The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts a colder-than-normal winter for Wilmington — with the coldest days expected in mid- to late December, early and late January, and early February and above-average snowfall for eastern areas. The forecast is based on solar science, climatology and meteorology.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Starting November, the City of Wilmington will plant over 600 new trees under a contract with Thorpe Landscaping—each tree will be inspected and maintained for 18 months as the aging, hazardous ones are replaced before the end of the year.  FOX Wilmington

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Saturday, over 1,000 people marched in Wilmington from the riverfront to Innes Park to protest what they saw as moves toward authoritarianism. Thousands joined similar rallies across southeastern NC as part of over 2,600 planned protests nationwide—showing strong local opposition to current government actions.  WECT

HEALTH NEWS

  • After nearly 120 days in the hospital NICU, premature baby Sway is going home today at Novant Health as a bubble parade celebrated his strength. Candis and Carlton Smith said they plan to hold him and ensure he is happy — marking a major milestone in his recovery.  FOX Wilmington
  • A heart transplant survivor celebrated his journey at the Cape Fear Heart Walk held by the American Heart Association—raising money for research and awareness for heart complications.  WECT
