- ➤ Easterseals PORT Health will host a free sensory-friendly Trunk or Treat event at Wilmington Autism & ABA Clinic on Oct. 30 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Families who donate canned goods for the Bank of Central & Eastern NC can win prizes over $200 and enjoy games and outdoor play — the event is designed for neurodiverse individuals of all ages. - ➤ The Cape Fear Garden Club gave nearly $70,000 to local non-profits on Wednesday to help with beautification, conservation, and education—funds from the Azalea Garden Tour were used to support native plantings and green infrastructure that filters storm water runoff. WWAY
- ➤ Wilmington's Green House Restaurant will host a five-course, wine-paired dinner on Nov 8—from 6 to 9 p.m.—to support Feast Down East as half of the proceeds will be donated to connect local farmers with the community. WECT

- ➤ Local domestic violence survivor Dan Romand, who endured years of abuse during a 12-year relationship, is raising awareness for male victims through his podcast Men Need To Be Heard. - ➤ Cape Fear Community College announced a transfer agreement with Arizona State University that lets students use the MyPath2ASU program for personalized guidance, degree tracking, and guaranteed general admission if requirements are met — a partnership designed to offer a clear route to further education. - ➤ Claire McCollough— a first-grade teacher at Porters Neck Elementary— has been named WWAY’s Teacher of the Month for October for her creative teaching and efforts to build connections with her students at school and local sports events, and she will receive a $600 prize from her sponsors. WWAY
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ City Council unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday night to sign a registry agreement with the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources — preserving 51 acres of the South Wilmington Sandhills at Halyburton Park — which houses rare plants like Pondspice, lanceleaf seedbox and West Indies meadowbeauty. Parks and Recreation Director Amy Beatty said the registry will guide prescribed burns and limit foot traffic to protect the area for future scientific research. WHQR
- ➤ The North Carolina Coastal Federation will host its 2025 Roast for the Coast event tomorrow from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the New Hanover County Arboretum+ The event features a local oyster roast and online auction that will raise funds to restore the native oyster population in the Cape Fear region+ FOX Wilmington

- ➤ A boil water advisory is in effect today at 7 p.m. for about 150 midtown customers as crews replace a valve—customers must boil water for one minute before using it until CFPUA tests ensure its safety. Port City Daily
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Parents Cassi and Tony Bellezza lost their son Anthony to suicide after he struggled with ADHD, and they now run a non-profit—Anthony’s Way—that connects families with coaches and specialists to provide the help he never received. The program has already supported 45 families and aims to offer critical support for children with ADHD. FOX Wilmington
- ➤ Mt. Calvary Center for Leadership Development is hosting a Community Health Workers Symposium where local health professionals—nonprofits and regional leaders discuss reducing healthcare costs, grant development, mental health awareness, workforce stability and advocacy.
