GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wilmington City Council approved a plan on October 21 to have the city manager apply for a $450K grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund to help pay for an ADA-compliant bridge at Greenfield Park—Lions Bridge, demolished in early 2025 as a safety hazard, had been a key feature of the park and city funds are already in place to assist with rising construction costs. The new design, estimated to cost over $1.1M, will be built with state matching grants and is expected to be completed by winter. Wilmington Star-News

- ➤ Ironman 70.3 North Carolina will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25, drawing nearly 3,000 athletes and over 7,000 visitors to a course that runs from the beach to downtown Wilmington—several streets and parking areas will be closed to support the event.
