ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Surf City police reported a fire on Oct.25 that destroyed one home and damaged two others after a call came in at 5:40 p.m.+ No one was hurt and crews asked residents to avoid the 1700 block of North Shore Drive and North New River Drive while the cause is under investigation. WECT
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Two Wilmington-area tech startups were named among the top 10 by the NC TECH Association — including CareHome Health Solutions, which developed a device that works like a coffee maker to dispense pills and water to help seniors take over 20 medications — while five other local startups were named finalists for the awards event on Dec 9 at the Raleigh Convention Center. - ➤ On Nov 8 at 7 p.m., Wilmington will host a free advance screening of Ken Burns’ documentary The American Revolution at Thalian Hall—tickets must be reserved through the Thalian Hall box office. The six-part series will fully premiere on PBS starting Nov 16 and features first-person accounts, historical figures, and original music. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ The Waccamaw Siouan Tribe held a heritage celebration at the Museum of Natural Sciences in Whiteville on Saturday, sharing their traditions with community members through dancing, a powwow, and cultural vendors (offering handmade jewelry and tribal blankets). Tribal leaders (including chairperson Millie Freeman) discussed health challenges and racial discrimination as they work toward federal recognition and honor community heroes. WECT
- ➤ Set for Nov. 1—2, the N.C. Spot Festival will be held at its longtime site on 14221 U.S. 17 in Hampstead with live music, a spot fish dinner, rides and vendor booths. Admission is $5 with children 6 and under free—organizers say a portion of proceeds supports local schools and that future events may move if Walmart develops the property. Wilmington Star-News

- ➤ Wilmington sports fans can vote for one of 21 nominees for StarNews Athlete of the Week—voting will close at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 as the fall season winds down for several local teams. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ On Oct. 25, 2025, 2,664 athletes competed in the 16th IRONMAN 70.3 NC race in Wilmington — with Atlanta’s AJ Tucker winning overall in 4:06:49, over three minutes ahead of the runner-up. Charleston’s Kayla Edwards won the women’s race in 4:36:08 as the course stretched from Wrightsville Beach to downtown Wilmington — finishing at Water Street Park in front of the USS North Carolina Battleship.
