COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Wilmington will host the Southeast North Carolina Veterans Parade on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m., starting at Third and Hanover streets and ending at Third and Market streets. A pre-parade show begins at 10 a.m. outside Thalian Hall—featuring marching bands, veteran organizations, and military vehicles along the route.  Wilmington Star-News

  • StarNews has covered a visit to the Kindred Spirit mailbox in Sunset Beach—this feature spotlights a unique local landmark that invites residents to explore its charm.  Wilmington Star-News
  • A comedy special filmed this summer in Wilmington will premiere on Netflix on Nov. 4—Cape Fear Community College’s Wilson Center hosted four sold-out shows for comedian Leanne Morgan, whose performance broke records at the center according to its executive director.  Wilmington Star-News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In 2000, the Wilmington Planning Commission approved a rezoning proposal for a 395-acre farm—known as Hardy Parker or Oak Ridge Farm—to create a neotraditional community called Mayfaire. The plan led to Mayfaire Town Center, whose first phase opened in May 2004—marking a shift to mixed-use development with homes, offices and shops including a hotel.  Wilmington Star-News

  • The North Carolina High School Athletic Association released the playoff bracket for nearly 20 area high schools, with postseason games beginning Friday, Nov. 7 and championships scheduled for Dec. 11-13 at neutral sites — local teams Hoggard and James Kenan earned top seeds and first-round byes while other schools face early matchups.  WECT
  • After an undefeated run in league play, UNCW women’s soccer lost to Elon in the CAA tournament semifinals Sunday. The match remained scoreless after double overtime until Elon won 6-5 in penalty kicks — ending UNCW’s tournament run.  WWAY
