COMMUNITY NEWS

  • New Hanover County and local partners created a food resource site at NHCgov.com/foodhelp to guide residents as SNAP benefits—temporarily paused by the USDA—are delayed due to the federal shutdown. The site lists November food events and food program information to support over 22,000 community members.  New Hanover County

CULTURE NEWS

  • Unity Spiritual Center of Wilmington will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a Family Fun Day on November 15 from 10 a.m. to noon that features games, face painting, and a puppet show — followed by a gala from 6 to 10 p.m. and a special service on November 16 at 11 a.m. — which will highlight historical photos, videos, and guest speakers.  WECT
  • Today a new basketball court mural will be unveiled at Maides Park. Wilmington native Kalin Devone (a full-time arts and adjunct professor at UNC Charlotte) painted the mural.  WECT
  • The Arts Council of Wilmington — New Hanover County announced that the 2026 Wilmington Theater Awards will honor local actors, directors, designers, and technicians, with the ceremony planned for March 25 at Thalian Hall. A nomination party will be held in January and online public voting will open after nominations are announced.  FOX Wilmington

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CFCC will host a Manufacturing Day Expo where people in Wilmington can explore manufacturing careers, meet local employers, and learn skills needed for job training—a chance for community members to discover new pathways. The expo will offer insights into training programs that may lead to lasting career opportunities.  WECT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Wilmington will close select roads on Nov. 8 for the Southeast North Carolina Veterans Parade, with closures beginning at 7 a.m. on some streets and 9:30 a.m. on others; pre-parade festivities start at 10 a.m. on Third Street and the parade begins at 11 a.m., ending near Market Street—recycling and trash services will operate on their regular schedule.  WECT

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 900 people joined the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at UNCW and raised over $200,000 for research and care. Organizers aim to raise $250,000 by the end of the year — the event featured family-friendly music and a Promise Garden ceremony honoring those affected.  WECT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tickets are on sale now for the annual Guns vs. Hose hockey game where Wilmington Police and Fire will face off on Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. at Polar Ice + all proceeds will support International Association of Firefighters Local 129.  WECT
  • Tickets are on sale now for the annual Guns vs. Hose hockey game between Wilmington's Police and Fire Departments, set for January 17 at 4 p.m. at Polar Ice—proceeds will benefit the International Association of Firefighters Local 129 and purchases are available at the WPD and WFD headquarters as well as at Polar Ice.  FOX Wilmington
