COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Richard Allan Horgan, a respected trust and estates attorney who was active in the Wilmington community and at Wrightsville United Methodist Church, died peacefully at home on October 22 from CMML. A memorial is scheduled for November 15 at 11 a.m. at Wrightsville United Methodist Church to honor his lifelong service—donations in his name may be made to the church or The Smile Train. - ➤ YWCA Lower Cape Fear will aid families who lost SNAP benefits for November by offering up to 100 $50 grocery gift cards at 2815 S. College Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 12—families must bring a valid photo ID and matching SNAP card to receive the card. WECT
- ➤ The Warming Shelter in Wilmington will expand its services by adding a second site in partnership with Purpose Church for the winter season to help those in need as temperatures drop below 30 degrees (it already operates at Grace United Methodist Church) and (is asking for volunteers and donations). CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Battleship North Carolina will honor the US Marine Corps 250th anniversary by lighting its hull in scarlet and gold from Friday through Monday. On Tuesday, it will switch to red, white, and blue for Veterans Day — Dr. Jay Martin said the display thanks veterans for their service. WWAY
- ➤ Today, the 19th annual Cape Fear Kite Festival is underway at Fort Fisher State Recreation Area as over 100 professional kite flyers display huge kites and host workshops for families. The event began Friday with a sneak peek at Kure Beach Pier — and now features a new drone show, food trucks and free shuttle service for visitors. WWAY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will close the right westbound lane on Wrightsville Avenue and Eastwood Road for water and sewer work starting Nov. 10. The project will run weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Feb. 1—pedestrians will use detour routes along Summer Rest Trail and Summer Rest Road. WECT
- ➤ New Hanover County is inviting residents to join Operation Green Light from November 4th to 11th by using green lighting in windows or on exterior fixtures to honor veterans. County buildings—including the Health and Human Services facility, Senior Resource Center and Government Center—will also display green lighting to show their support. New Hanover County
- ➤ The NC Department of Environmental Quality is now accepting public comments on the Draft EIS for the proposed Wilmington Harbor 403 Navigation Project. A public hearing will be held on November 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Skyline Center—comments may also be emailed or mailed for review. WECT
- ➤ The main passenger terminal at ILM lost water from 10:15 a.m. to 12:55 p.m. on Nov. 6 due to a waterline failure + officials confirmed water was restored after the outage. WECT

- ➤ Wilmington bakeries are accepting orders for Thanksgiving desserts such as pies, cakes and gluten-free treats with deadlines ranging from November 15 to November 23 for pick-ups on November 24–26. - ➤ Today, the second location of a popular market and cafe opened with a new menu, while local restaurants plan Thanksgiving with changes like a Peruvian chicken catering option.
