- ➤ The town of Clarkton hosted its first Veteran’s Day festival to honor local veterans with a march, pledge of allegiance, and live music along Burney Ford Road—featuring food vendors, crafts, and plans for future events. Mayor Jerome Myers praised the event for bringing the community together. WECT
- ➤ American Legion Post 68 in Leland is working to honor every veteran's grave at Wilmington National Cemetery by ensuring each receives a $17 wreath this December. Donations and live wreath purchases must be submitted by December 1 and wreaths will be placed on December 13 when the public is invited to join the ceremony. WWAY
- ➤ WECT received first place awards for Outstanding News Operation and Best Newscast at the RTDNAC luncheon in Charlotte — the honors recognize the station’s strong performance in broadcast journalism. WECT
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A family of four was forced to leave their home after a fire on Royal Palm Lane Saturday at 3 p.m. — no one was hurt and the Red Cross is helping as investigators look into the cause. FOX Wilmington

- ➤ On Nov 5, a Hispanic grocery store and restaurant opened at the busy intersection of Castle Hayne Road and North Kerr Avenue after the Tienda Latina El Paso store relocated and expanded (its new site is across from Wrightsboro Plaza). Wilmington Star-News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Amigos International Festival Latino brings people together at Ogden Park to enjoy live Latin music, dance, and cuisine as organizer Lucy Vasquez said she plans to expand the event beyond Latin cultures—making it a celebration of diversity. The festival continues today from noon until 6 p.m. and has drawn hundreds since Saturday. WECT
- ➤ Burgaw native Mary Porter will perform a tribute show at 54 Below in New York Monday at 7 p.m. to honor North Carolina artists with songs by Nina Simone, Roberta Flack, Thelonious Monk, James Taylor, and Ava Gardner. She is joined by music director Michael Orland and Grammy winner NaTasha Yvette Williams while a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association — and the event will be livestreamed for remote viewers. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ John Michael Mielcarski was rushed to hospital on a cold February night with severe pneumonia, sepsis and kidney failure and had to undergo emergency surgery and a long ICU stay. His life was saved when his parents bought him a dialysis machine at a charity event—an early Christmas present, and he is now on a long journey to recovery. FOX Wilmington

- ➤ New Realtor.com data shows that the median home sale price in New Hanover County rose from $440,000 in July to $462,500 in August — a 5.1% increase — while single-family homes saw a slight rise to $475,000. Wilmington Star-News
