COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents near Salty Acres Park are upset after a weekend dirt bike event on Carl Meeks Road made loud noise — they want the county to reinstate noise rules that were dropped. Property owner Chad Nichol said the event was meant to boost tourism, while neighbors remain angry and the issue will be reviewed on November nineteenth.  WWAY
  • At the Wilmington farmer’s market on Oleander Drive, people without SNAP benefits received tokens worth a total of $45 on Saturday—dozens showed their EBT cards to get help during the government shutdown. The market will continue this token program every Saturday this month.  WWAY
  • North Carolina Seaside Animal Rescue and Broomtail Craft Brewery teamed up on Saturday for the Kentucky Derby-themed 'Barks, Bowties, and Brews' fundraiser on Amsterdam Way in Wilmington—this event highlighted adoptable pets, local vendors, music, and dog contests to help ease shelter overcrowding.  WWAY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At around 3 p.m. on Saturday, the Wilmington Fire Department responded to a house fire on Royal Palm Lane that displaced a family of four — no injuries were reported and the Red Cross is assisting the displaced family while the cause remains under investigation.  WWAY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Amazon is building two new facilities at Pender Commerce Park off U.S. 421 as construction continues and the project expands the company’s local operations.  Wilmington Star-News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cape Fear Community College’s Wilson Center celebrated 10 years by hosting famous performers including Liza Minnelli, Tony Danza, Boy George, Blue Man Group, and Jason Isbell — and it held a live event with Napoleon Dynamite's cast during a 20th birthday screening.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Wilmington holds remembrance events throughout November to mark the 127th anniversary of the 1898 coup — the darkest chapter in the city's history.  WECT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On November 5, crews worked along Wilmington’s Riverwalk to make upgrades, including at Water Street Park — officials said the improvements were planned to enhance the public space.  Wilmington Star-News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Novant Health employees volunteered to pack care kits for families with babies in the NICU at Betty H. Cameron Women's and Children's Hospital. The care kits provide families with essential supplies during their hospital stay.  Wilmington Star-News
