ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A historic building at the Graystone Inn in downtown Wilmington caught fire today—firefighters arrived after a call at 1:40 p.m. and police closed Market and Orange Street due to the blaze.  WECT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Leland Smoke House closed its Olde Waterford Way location on Nov. 10 — a new restaurant, The Pit Backyard BBQ, will open in its place to serve barbecue favorites. La Costa Mexican Restaurant sold its Market Street eatery but continues to serve customers at its two other locations.  Wilmington Star-News

  • Downtown Wilmington was lit up with holiday decorations along Front and Water streets on Nov 12—showing the area in a festive display for the season.  Wilmington Star-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Nature Conservancy named two Wilmington-area hiking spots—Green Swamp Preserve in Supply and Flytrap Trail at Carolina Beach State Park—as two of North Carolina’s best hikes, citing unique habitats and local wildlife as highlights. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • CFPUA announced its groundbreaking for a $400 million Southside Water Reclamation Facility designed to treat up to 16 million gallons of water per day and will complete by 2030—marking the agency’s largest project ever.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Crews for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers begin placing new sand on Carolina Beach today—an effort set to last 4 to 5 weeks and move from Freeman Park to North Pier. Visitors must follow posted safety signs and avoid restricted areas.  FOX Wilmington
