COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Good Shepherd Center is handing out 250 Thanksgiving turkey vouchers this week as part of its Grocery Giveaway program+ the vouchers are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  WECT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency crews secured a gas leak on New Centre Drive in Wilmington on Monday morning+ they quickly contained the leak to prevent further risks.  WECT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Earth, Wind & Fire will perform at Live Oak Bank Pavilion in Wilmington on May 17, 2026 — tickets go on sale Friday, Nov 21.  Wilmington Star-News
  • The 31st annual Cucalorus Film Festival will take place from November 19th to November 23rd in downtown Wilmington — featuring 95 films selected from 1,608 submissions from over 75 countries. Festival events will include screenings with Q&A sessions and a film conference at Thalian Hall with keynote speaker Byron Hurt.  WWAY
  • Earth, Wind, & Fire will perform on May 17 at Live Oak Bank Pavilion as part of the REEDS Jewelers Concert Series in Wilmington and tickets will go on sale on Nov. 21 at 10 a.m.  WECT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Novant Health and Cape Fear Community College will host a healthcare hiring fair on December 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the event at the G Building on CFCC’s downtown campus will let students and community members explore healthcare training programs and attend on-site interviews.  FOX Wilmington

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At Monday’s public hearing in Wilmington Harbor, officials reviewed a dredging project that would let larger cargo ships enter the port — a change that raises concerns over the 30% of coastal waterbirds nesting along the Cape Fear River — and possibly harm brown pelicans and white ibises. Environmental experts warned that the plan could erode coastal habitats — leading to increased flooding and loss of wetlands — without clear economic benefits.  WWAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Town officials and community members met Monday in Wrightsville Beach to discuss plans to replace three bridges—including the Causeway Drive and two on Salisbury Street—by 2028 amid rising concerns of traffic and access for residents and tourists. The committee is working with local schools, the Coast Guard and emergency responders to schedule impact assessments that will help minimize disruptions as the project moves forward.  WECT

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A well-known downtown inn had its roof collapse Friday after an accidental fire started in the basement during renovation work, and county inspectors condemned the historic property due to structural issues. The owners remain hopeful to save the building and will meet with engineers today — key steps to decide if repairs can proceed.  Port City Daily
