CULTURE NEWS

  • The Confession — a modern retelling of the Pied Piper story — will screen Sunday at 4:15 p.m. at Thalian Hall Main during the Cucalorus Film Festival, and it features a Wilmington-area cast and crew that brings dark family secrets and horror with moments of light humor to life.  WWAY
  • Filmmakers and artists from Wilmington and around the world gathered on November 19 at Jengo's Playhouse on Princess Street for the opening night party of the 31st annual Cucalorus Film Festival. The soft opening allowed attendees to collect passes and watch short films before festival events begin on November 20 and run through November 23 (weather may change over the weekend).  Wilmington Star-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wilmington International Airport is one year into its Part 150 Noise Study and early results show that some neighborhoods near the airport have high levels of flight noise—especially areas north of Blue Clay Road and near N. Kerr Avenue—and the study will help shape a Noise Compatibility Program. The study, paid for mainly by the FAA, will track noise from military, commercial, and general aviation to guide next steps for community noise reduction.  Port City Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Battleship North Carolina will be lit today in red, white, blue and gold to honor North Carolina’s 236th anniversary of statehood—visible along the Riverwalk, nearby parks and across the Cape Fear River.  WECT
  • Town officials announced that Founders Park will reopen next month at the Grand Illumination of Leland in Lights on Dec. 6 at 6 p.m.—only the amphitheater will remain closed until late spring as work continues.  WECT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Coastal Horizons will break ground today on its new administration building at its main campus on Shipyard Blvd — the project will add treatment space and boost efficiency for its supportive behavioral health services. Leaders including Senator Michael Lee, who secured $12 million in funding, will speak at 2 p.m. at the ceremony held at 945 Medical Center Drive.  WECT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Hoggard boys soccer won its first state championship with a 2-0 victory over West Forsyth on November 20. The team built a unique tradition with a cowboy hat and ended a long drought of team state titles in Wilmington.  Wilmington Star-News
