- ➤ Founders Park reopened Saturday with the return of Leland in Lights when Santa flipped the switch to light up the park — including the Christmas tree near town hall — and guests enjoyed a train ride. The holiday light event runs until Jan. 4 while construction continues on the amphitheater. WWAY
- ➤ Families of all ages gathered at UNCW yesterday for the William H. Craig Race for Life to honor the late orthodontist’s commitment to the community — the event provided scholarships and camp opportunities for youth and continues as a cherished annual tradition. FOX Wilmington
- ➤ Kevin McDonald, owner of Amber Dale’s Pumpkin Patch, advises residents to choose a fresh Christmas tree with enough moisture and use a proper stand to prevent holiday fires (one in four fires are linked to drying trees) and recommends checking outlets to avoid overloading lights. WWAY

- ➤ The Melton family has brightened Melton Road with a Christmas display featuring over 100 inflatables. This long-standing holiday tradition brings festive cheer to the local neighborhood each year. Wilmington Star-News
- ➤ Battleship North Carolina and Friends hosted their fourth annual Wreaths of Honor to remember Pearl Harbor victims by hanging over 200 twenty-inch wreaths with ribbons and cards on the ship's lifelines - the ceremony in the memorial room honored veterans and active-duty service members. WWAY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Back in 1995, Wilmington opened a one-mile stretch of the Smith Creek Parkway — later renamed Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway — to ease traffic off Market Street amid funding and environmental concerns. The full project was finished in 2005. Wilmington Star-News

- ➤ On Dec. 7, Wilmington physicians at Novant Health Community Health and Wellness Institute earned the top quality score among 480 Medicare Shared Savings Program organizations — their second consecutive year achieving a 98.69 rating through a strong focus on preventive care. Wilmington Star-News
