CULTURE NEWS

  • Governor Josh Stein announced that several film projects, including the first season of 'RJ Decker,' received a North Carolina Film & Entertainment Grant to support over 4,900 jobs and to boost local spending. Filming in New Hanover County is ongoing as the state sets a strong stage for 2026 productions.  WECT
  • Wilmington Voices will give two free holiday concerts next week, with doors opening at 7 p.m. (Dec. 19 and Dec. 20) at venues including the Little Chapel on the Boardwalk in Wrightsville Beach and St. Andrew’s-Covenant Presbyterian Church on Market Street (family-friendly and handicap accessible).  WWAY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new television series called 'RJ Decker' is filming in New Hanover County after it received up to $11.6 million in state film grants, which will support local jobs and boost the economy. It is one of three statewide projects expected to generate more than $113 million and 4,900 jobs.  WWAY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jessie Goodwin, executive director of the Children’s Museum of Wilmington, was appointed to the North Carolina Science Network Board which promotes informal STEM learning across the state. In her new role she will help expand hands-on science education for learners of all ages.  WWAY
  • NH Sheriff’s Office offers a free Safety Masterclass for autism self-advocates and caregivers on Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Government Center in Wilmington (rooms 136 to 137). The class covers emergency preparedness, safe police interactions, online safety, wandering prevention, and search and rescue.  WECT

  • The city paused its plan to remove a neighborhood garden on Fifth Avenue and will hold a public meeting on Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at City Hall (Skyline Center, 929 N. Front St.) to gather neighbors' feedback on maintaining the space.  Port City Daily

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dosher Memorial Hospital in Southport held a grand reveal of its new 8,000 sqft emergency department and will open Tuesday morning at 6 to meet growing patient demand — the old facility will be renovated for another use.  FOX Wilmington

  • Paloma’s at LELA, inside Hotel Lela on Market Street, serves Mexican and Baja California-inspired dishes today. Chef Jimmie McDowell crafted a menu featuring birria tacos and a Honey Spicy Habanero Burger (a modern twist on local favorites).  WECT
  • Paloma's at LELA is a new Mexican and Baja California-inspired restaurant in Hotel LELA on Market Street that offers creative birria tacos and a namesake cocktail; Chef Jimmie McDowell uses his experiences from El Paso and Las Vegas to craft an inviting menu.  FOX Wilmington
