  • Towns and organizations are planning New Year's Eve festivities across the Cape Fear region, inviting local residents to join in the celebrations on Dec. 31. These events aim to bring the community together for a festive evening of local entertainment.  WECT
  • Bosley and Kate, two four-month-old kittens from Feline Matchmakers, are now available for adoption since they are not bonded and can be adopted separately. An adoption event is held today at PetSmart in Monkey Junction from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  WECT

  • Mayfair Town Center buzzed Friday as many shoppers returned Christmas gifts & took advantage of post-holiday deals while retailers extended return windows and expect more returns soon.  WWAY

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Dec. 26, 2025, local readers voted on their favorite restaurants across categories like steakhouses, waterfront spots, shrimp and grits, and wings. A new downtown eatery topped the steakhouse vote while a window-service spot led its category (with eateries near Wrightsville Beach and Carolina Beach also favored).  Wilmington Star-News
  • Wilmington residents celebrated Kwanzaa at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Grace Street on Dec. 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the event co-hosted by the Burnett-Eaton Museum to honor African American heritage and community unity.  WECT

  • Surf City is collecting donated Christmas trees for dune restoration — residents must remove all lights and decorations before drop-off at designated sites. Donations will be accepted throughout the coming week.  WECT

  • Dr. Erika Geisler, a Wilmington clinical psychologist, advises taking breaks such as a walk or gym session to ease stress after holiday overindulgence—she recommends self care routines and checking on others to help manage anxiety.  WWAY
  • After a state budget stalemate froze Medicaid funds for non-medical support, Community Care of the Lower Cape Fear received $1.5M from the New Hanover Community Endowment to build a network linking residents to essential services (food, housing, and transport) in New Hanover. Planning began October for a six- to eight-month blueprint.  Port City Daily

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Local restaurants are offering special New Year's Eve dinner menus. Pinpoint in downtown will serve its final five-course tasting menu — other venues like Circa 1922, Three10, Dram Yard, Origins and Caprice are also offering prix fixe dinners with reservations advised.  WECT

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Starway Village, the largest affordable housing complex in the state, opened in October on Carolina Beach Road. The 278-unit project received 452 applications and local leaders call it a model for future affordable housing.  Port City Daily
