COMMUNITY NEWS

The holiday light event runs until Jan. 4 while construction continues on the amphitheater.  WWAY
  • Families of all ages gathered at UNCW yesterday for the William H. Craig Race for Life to honor the late orthodontist’s commitment to the community — the event provided scholarships and camp opportunities for youth and continues as a cherished annual tradition.  FOX Wilmington
  • Kevin McDonald, owner of Amber Dale’s Pumpkin Patch, advises residents to choose a fresh Christmas tree with enough moisture and use a proper stand to prevent holiday fires (one in four fires are linked to drying trees) and recommends checking outlets to avoid overloading lights.  WWAY

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Melton family has brightened Melton Road with a Christmas display featuring over 100 inflatables. This long-standing holiday tradition brings festive cheer to the local neighborhood each year.  Wilmington Star-News
  • Battleship North Carolina and Friends hosted their fourth annual Wreaths of Honor to remember Pearl Harbor victims by hanging over 200 twenty-inch wreaths with ribbons and cards on the ship's lifelines - the ceremony in the memorial room honored veterans and active-duty service members.  WWAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Back in 1995, Wilmington opened a one-mile stretch of the Smith Creek Parkway — later renamed Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway — to ease traffic off Market Street amid funding and environmental concerns. The full project was finished in 2005.  Wilmington Star-News
